Tropical Cyclones

Some basics on Tropical Cyclones:
Tropical Cyclones are sometimes called: Hurricanes (USA), Tyhoons (Asia), or Willy Willies (Aborigines, Australia). They are huge storms which form in the warm waters of the tropics. They bring heavy rain, strong/violent winds, and huge waves/stormsurge. They are very destructive and can cause loss of life and property damage. All the text links at the bottom of this topic are help with your pages you need to create this week on the sequence of events page and the title page. The title page should show the processes that create and form a tropical cyclone/hurricane. Also throughout this section I will place images that could be copied for your sites to use. The picture to the left of this is of Tropical Cyclone Heta which destroyed Nuie. You can clearly see the eye (in the centre) and that the winds are spiraling in a clockwise direction. Tropical Cyclones start in the band of 5 degrees north and 5 degrees south of the Equator (in the centre of the Earth). This is the point that is hit most by the sun and warms the water. This band is called the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and is where all weather starts. Due to this warming by the sun evapouration occurs, that warm moist air raises. As the Earth spins that moist air moves away from the centre either south or north. In the south it goes of in a clockwise direction (cyclone/low pressure) or north anti-clockwise (anti-cyclone/low pressure). This Warm moist air raises and as it does it cools and condnses into rain clouds. The corilis force makes it begin to spin. Then this spinning causes a cyclone to form. This is the start of a tropical cyclone as long as the temperature of the water is above 26.5 degrees.
